First of all No individual- I repeat - no individual can be in the zone of preparing for a competitive exam for 4–5 year straight.
Either you’ll burn out or go crazy or get depressed.
You have come into MBBS after clearing a highly competitive exam and you want to torture yourself with same shit right from the day you enter college.
Why?
Unless you’re a masochist who enjoys getting tortured - I wouldn’t advice anyone to think about NEET PG in first year.
Instead - focus on reading good standard books, enjoying college life - finishing study/life balance and maybe get a girlfriend or boyfriend.
It’s the last of your teens - Enjoy while it lasts!
I personally believe that the thought process should change . Rather than preparing for NEET PG from first year you should make your basics strong . However I would tell you a path where you can kill two birds with single arrow .
(Slight intro :- In my mbbs journey I never had that proper guidance it took me 3 years to figure out what should be the approach towards mbbs and 5 years for the approach to PG entrance , so after many failures I’m give you the best possible advice known to me )
Approach to First year MBBS :-
- Make Basics strong :- In order to make your basics strong you need to follow standard textbooks . Now the problem is Standard textbooks are not easily graspable ,so you should follow videos of Dr. Najeeb or Ninjanerd from Youtube or better if you can afford you can subscribe to premium content of any PG coaching app which you find suitable be it Prepladder or Marrow or anything else . After having the concepts and bullet points you need to know open the Standard textbooks and read them ,it would be a cake walk . Standard textbooks are utmost important for INICET and the diagrams are taken from Standard textbooks only be it NEET PG or INICET .
- MCQ solving :- To crack PG exam ,you should have the habbit of solving mcqs so you can buy MCQ books or if you’re having the app access solve the Q bank modules . Prepladder Q bank is more analytical and solutions are concise whereas Marrow Q bank is more recall type and solutions are vast . So ,don’t let the mcq solving skill go away after your NEET UG .
- Study for Proff :- Studying for Proff is also important because you need to pass them after all ,but I would say it shouldn’t be your main aim . Your main aim as I said “ Basics strong and MCQs on “ . You should prepare for Proff max to max 3 months before your exam . In last 3 months solve the Past 10 years of your University exams and your own notes or the notes you made from the PG coaching platforms ,they the live savers .
- Practicals :- Never miss your practicals . You could miss your lectures ,but never practicals . In PG exam cadaveric images are given , Physiology practicals and Biochem practicals are given and not to say you need to pass your 1st year .
Few things I would suggest to stay away if you’re serious about your medical career :-
- Don’t mark important points from your seniors . First reading should be the complete book not selective .
- Don’t believe the words of your seniors that lead a chill life ,you would regret later . It becomes difficult to crack NEET PG if your basics are not clear .
- You can take help in your exams by discussing with your batchmates but never bring take support of unfair means . (Even in my college which is East India’s top college ,30–40% students bring chits in the proff exams ,which is truely pathetic ).
- Alochol and smoking even if you do always in moderation and occasional . I have seen cream students been destroyed due to addiction .
- If you’re going through depression seek help as soon as possible . Last 5 years about 55 mbbs students have committed sucide , please I request sometimes life feels worthless but there’s always light after darkness . Seak help ,cling to your loved ones .
